18+18+ only. Betting involves risk of loss and can be addictive.

Ghana has a well-established, licensed betting market supervised by a single national regulator. In 2025 it also scrapped an unpopular tax on bettors' winnings. This guide covers the rules and payments, and lists operators licensed in Ghana.

We are verifying which operators hold a valid licence here. The list will appear once our checks are complete.

Yes. Sports betting, online and in shops, is legal for adults aged 18 and over with a licensed operator. The Gaming Commission of Ghana, set up under the Gaming Act, 2006 (Act 721), issues licences for retail and online sports betting, casinos, gaming machines and other games of chance. By mid-2025 the Commission reported about 90 licensed operators.

How to check a licence

  1. Find the licence details in the footer of the operator's site or app. It should name the Gaming Commission of Ghana.
  2. Confirm the operator on the Commission's website, or contact the Commission directly.
  3. Avoid operators that only show an offshore licence, accept only crypto, or route deposits through personal MoMo numbers.

"Fixed match" sellers are scammers. Nobody can sell you a guaranteed result. If a tipster asks for MoMo payments in exchange for "sure games", walk away.

Taxes: the 10% winnings tax is gone

In 2023 Ghana introduced a 10% withholding tax on betting winnings. It proved unpopular and hard to enforce. Parliament repealed it under the Income Tax (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1129), effective 2 April 2025. Since then, licensed operators should not deduct this tax from your winnings. Operators themselves still pay tax on their gross gaming revenue.

If an operator still deducts a percentage from your winnings, ask customer support to explain the legal basis in writing.
